Business Mascots – Take Your Marketing to a New Level
By John Holland of JH Studios, Inc.
Picture your favorite breakfast cereal when you were a kid. Does Tony the Tiger come to mind? Maybe Lucky the Leprechaun or Snap, Crackle and Pop make you smile with nostalgia. Your favorite sports team has a mascot, as well, and it somehow helps you relate to the team better. Have you ever considered the fact that your business could have a mascot as well? You may not have considered it before, but business icons can help brand your company even more than a logo. High schools, colleges and cereal companies use them. Why? Character costumes are memorable, and that is the key to why corporate mascots work. Developing business mascots that are unique to your company can take your business marketing to a new level. If you think the idea of business icons is new, consider recognizable corporate mascots like the gecko who represents Geiko, the Energizer Bunny and the Taco Bell Chihuahua. Once you have established an icon for your company, business mascots can be used in all of your marketing materials and advertisements. They can be positioned specifically to help direct the eyes of the reader where you want them to go in a printed advertisement. Once corporate mascots have been developed and used in your advertising enough that people start associating the character with your company, you can take it to the next level by having your business icons made into a mascot costume that you can use in many different instances. You can imagine character costumes advertising along thoroughfares, but you can also use mascot costumes at events, trade shows and sales. Getting your character costumes noticed by customers will make the business mascots even more memorable. When your mascot is memorable, your company will be as well. This, after all, is the entire point of inventing a character or visual icon in the first place. If you run a small business, it may seem like a great deal of trouble to devise business mascots and character costumes, but keep in mind that every business begins small. If you approach your business as if it were a large business, it will be much more likely to reach the magnitude you envision. There are teams who are experienced in the invention of business icons and even the physical creation of mascot costumes. In order for corporate mascots to succeed in making a positive and memorable impression, they should be professionally constructed by people with experience.

I agree. I use the animated character from my project as my "mascot"... It makes sense for my business.
Sorry I missed this valuable intel when you wrote it, John. Maybe I could develop a mascot that would be a target for future customers!!! Seriously, keep up the good intels. Best wishes. Frederick

You could get a mascot, but I think you have enough character as it is. ;) Thanks for the comment, Frederick. I appreciate it.
