Small Business Owners - It's Time to Let Go...
By John Holland of JH Studios, Inc.
Have you recently opened a new small business? What an exciting new time in your life! At the introduction of your company to the business world, you may be tempted to do everything yourself. This is natural, as the business is your own creation. However, there is not a single lasting business that is run by literally one person. You must be willing to pass off some of the hundreds of hats that you have to wear in the very early stages. Not only is delegating responsibility to others acceptable, but it is really the only way your business can ever hope to expand. It is easy, as a new small business owner, to treat your business as if it was your own baby. New mothers want no one else to hold, help with or even touch their infant, even if that baby keeps them up late at night and on weekends with its constant need for attention. The first remedy to the problem of business owners wearing too many hats is to hire people to help you. Still, in many cases, the concept of delegating responsibility is limited, and the business owner still refuses to let go. You may be in the mindset that you would prefer to do the work yourself rather than give up some of the responsibilities to someone else. After all, if you want something done right, you must do it yourself, right? This is the reason new mothers refuse the concept of delegating responsibility, because they are afraid that no one can do as good of a job taking care of their baby as they can. To all you business owners wearing too many hats, it is time to let go. In order to grow your business, you must be able to focus on the things that really matter and pass the hats on to someone else who can take care of the little things. All mothers eventually let go of their phobia that others will treat their baby with less care than they will and they ask for help. One of the most notable qualities of an excellent business leader is the ability to delegate responsibility. No one can do it all, and if you try to be one of those business owners wearing too many hats, you will undoubtedly crash in your attempts to run your business. Hire help, hand off responsibility, and let your baby grow up!

Great Intel John, there is one other way to delegate... with software that automates your most hum drum tasks! Read all about it at http://1clickmacro.com
Wonderful analogy to taking care of a baby. It's still yours, but if you try to do it all you'll exhaust yourself. Thanks for the insights.
Amen. I was one of those, (still am to some extent) who liked to do things myself. It is a hard lesson to learn, but as one gets older one has to let go more and more and let others help in life AND in business.
